What’s New in Primavera P6 Release 8

New Upgrades for Primavera P6 Release 8

Primavera P6 Release 8 is the latest edition in the Primavera project management suite. This release delivers significant advances in functionality and will help companies deliver more projects on schedule and within scope, while reducing the overall cost of projects. Key enhancements come to the user interface, project management functionality, and supported technology.

A new refreshed user interface will allow users to navigate Primavera P6 Release 8 more effectively. The navigation of P6 will now be done by using the tabs below the tool bar making it easier to identify where you are in the program. The detailed pages have been modernized and simplified and the icons located in the tool bar have been changed to text making it easier for users to view Primavera P6 Release 8.

The resource management features of Primavera P6 Release 8 have been expanded to guarantee optimal outcomes from investments of scarce enterprise resources. Resources can now be assigned to multiple assignments at once and search for best fit. Then, the new “check resource over-allocation” function can be enabled to identify resource constraints that may impact the project. Primavera P6  now allows resource over-allocation to be viewed in weekly increments ensuring that users spot and respond to problems quicker.

There have been new features added to the project management functionality of Primavera P6 Release 8.  New fields are available when creating the Enterprise Project Structure (EPS) including: last schedule date, last saved date, and last apply actuals date. Gantt Charts can now be created based on User Defined Fields (UDFs) providing a more personalized layout. Users can now view a risk adjusted schedule reflecting accurate and real time risk analysis data.

The risk management features of Primavera P6 Release 8 have also been upgraded.  Risk management now supports the tracking of risk for a single project and across multiple projects. Risks can be copy and pasted within a single project or multiple projects. Relative thresholds are supported for use across multiple projects and additional fields were added to better track and analyze risk. Risk exposure and score is now viewable at the project level for analysis.

The platforms that support Primavera P6 Release 8 have been redone and updated with new functionality. Primavera now supports the use of Google Chrome 9 web browser, an additional server: HP-UX Itanium, and is now compatible with BI Publisher 11g. These changes along with the addition of the project integrity checker enables near real time reporting and improved performance of your project portfolio.
