However, I left out a very important feature that help users learn P6 faster and more efficiently, the Universal Productivity Kit (UPK).

The Universal Productivity’s pre built application content is a key enhancement to Primavera P6 Release 8. The UPK pre built content are materials created by the Primavera development team that documents best practices for use in Primavera P6 Release 8 and Contract Management 14. The UPK pre built content delivers value to the user by mirroring the Primavera development methodology and eliminating the need to build and maintain multiple application protocols to train users to utilize the software. This feature gives project team members a baseline from which to develop and customize a training protocol based on the needs of the organization.

The UPK pre built content in Primavera P6 Release 8 has been embedded in the application to make it as user friendly as possible. To access the UPK, move your cursor to the help button and launch the UPK. The application will then open an internal browser and bring you to the pre built content that is specific to the page you were on in Primavera. The UPK is set up to allow users to interact with it in five different modes: see it, try it, know it, do it, and print it.

For example, you are in the beginning stages of building a schedule in Primavera P6 Release 8 and are not familiar with how to create a work breakdown structure.

The see it mode enables users to watch a video simulation of how the process is completed. The process will be completed step by step with added learning tips throughout the video.

The try it mode provides users with a self service learning environment. Like see it mode, try it mode is a guided, step by step walk through of how to create a work break down structure, except this time you have to participate and actually perform the steps. Each step comes with pop up blurbs with additional information.

The know it mode is where the UPK will assess the performance of the user. It tests their performance to  see whether they understand the steps associated with their roles. The tests are score based and gives users feedback when they are not performing the right action.

The do it mode lets users take control and perform the required steps. The do it mode stays on top of the Primavera P6 Release 8 application providing users with minimal text and visual aids to give users the chance to perform the task with little help. This type of learning helps users move through the transaction quicker and helps reduce user error.

The print it mode has a variety of outputs from which a user can print materials.   The systems process, job aid, and test script documents are just a couple of formats that users can view and print the learning material provided in the UPK pre built content. These document formats can be organized in a pdf view or can be published in HTML format for easy access by web. The print it feature gives organizations a hard copy of the best practice methodology to aid new users in learning the Primavera P6 Release 8 application.
